Our King’s Worcester hockey teams are celebrating a series of outstanding achievements as they make their mark in national competitions. With multiple teams advancing to the later stages of prestigious tournaments, this season is shaping up to be one to remember.
U13s Reach Final Four of National Competition
The U13s have enjoyed a remarkable season, culminating in a historic achievement—reaching the final four of the Independent Schools Hockey Cup. They will compete in the finals at the Nottingham Hockey Centre, solidifying their position among the best teams in the country. This accomplishment highlights their dedication and talent throughout the campaign.
U16s Battle Bravely in England Hockey Plate
The U16s journeyed to Blundell’s for a gripping fourth-round clash in the England Hockey Plate competition. Facing a disciplined and tough opposition, the match began with Blundell’s scoring an early goal, putting the visitors on the back foot.
Despite the setback, the girls showcased determination, fighting relentlessly for possession and maintaining composure under pressure. Their calm approach on the ball and effective outlet play earned them a couple of early short corners, though Blundell’s defended resolutely.
At half-time, Blundell’s led 2-0 and soon extended their lead to 3-0 in the second half. However, the U16s were undeterred. Heidi brought the team back into contention with a superb counter-attack, calmly slotting past the keeper in a one-on-one situation. The match intensified, and in the final 30 seconds, Sophie executed another brilliant counter-attack, slotting the ball under the keeper into the corner of the net, narrowing the scoreline to 3-2.
Though the game ended with a 3-2 victory for Blundell’s, the U16s left the pitch with heads held high. Their teamwork, resilience, and refusal to give up until the final whistle drew praise from coaches and supporters alike.
U14As Progress to England Hockey Plate Quarter-Finals
The U14As have continued their impressive run in the England Hockey Plate Cup, advancing to the quarter-finals. Their next challenge will be an away fixture against Bromsgrove. The team’s focus and determination have been critical to their success so far.
1st XI Secure Spot in the Fourth Round of Independent Schools Cup
After a stellar performance earlier this week, the 1st XI have advanced to the fourth round of the Independent Schools Hockey Cup. Their next test will take them to Millfield, where they aim to continue their winning streak.
These achievements across the age groups reflect a fantastic period for the school’s hockey programme, with players and teams demonstrating both skill and determination at every level. Best of luck to all teams in the next stages of their competitions!
