House Music and Drama Competitions Take Centre Stage

The eagerly anticipated House Music Competition made its return in spectacular style this year, filling College Hall with excitement and showcasing the exceptional talents of pupils from across the Lower Remove to Upper Sixth. As a much-loved event in the school calendar, the competition brought pupils and staff together for a wonderful day of performances.

The House songs were sung with great enthusiasm, as each house united to support their singers, turning the occasion into a joyful celebration of school spirit.

Music Competition Highlights

The House Song Competition was as lively and spirited as ever. While the focus was on the music, the event also helped foster teamwork as the Upper Sixth led their houses in rehearsals and in conducting their performances. Pupils performed with house musicians accompanying them, whether on piano or in a full band. The competition was good, and the standard of singing was impressive, making the adjudicator’s decision tough.

Each house delivered their chosen songs with energy and creativity, producing unique renditions of these popular hits that captured the audience’s attention. The performances were not only a testament to the pupils’ musical abilities but also showcased the camaraderie and spirit within each house.

In the end, Choir triumphed with their rendition of Steal My Girl, Oswald came second with Baby One More Time, and Chappel took third place with Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.

Solo Music Winners:

The solo competition was a key highlight of the event, featuring individual performances from pupils across different year groups. The competition was split into various sections, allowing pupils from the Middle Years and Sixth Form to perform in an informal yet supportive setting in front of their peers. The atmosphere was one of encouragement and excitement, with each performance reflecting the hard work and dedication of the musicians. The adjudicator praised the high standard of music on display, making it a challenging task to select the winners from such a talented group of performers.

  • Lower Remove:
    Winner – Henry K.
    Runner-up – Dan L.
  • Upper Remove:

Inaugural House Drama Competition

This year, we introduced the first-ever House Drama Competition, adding a new layer of excitement to the proceedings. Adjudicated by OV Hollie Avery, the competition saw students take on the challenge of both musical theatre and solo drama performances, impressing the judges with their creativity and flair.

Musical Theatre Category:

The debut of this new competition was warmly received, and it is certain to become a regular feature in the school’s performing arts calendar. Both the musical and dramatic performances were of an impressively high standard, highlighting the remarkable talent within the pupil body.

The Winners’ Concert offered a chance for the top performances from both the music and drama competitions to be celebrated by a larger audience of pupils, staff, parents, and guests.
