Triumphs in the Junior Mathematical Challenge

The Junior Maths Olympiad and Kangaroo rounds of the UKMT (United Kingdom Mathematics Trust) Junior Mathematical Challenge were held at the end of the Summer term in 2021 and the results arrived during the Summer holidays.

The Junior Mathematical Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice Challenge. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

Pranav M and Dan A took part in the Junior Olympiad which is a very challenging test, involving full written solutions to some tricky problems!

The Junior Mathematical Olympiad is a follow-on round to the Junior Mathematical Challenge. It is a two-hour Challenge consisting of 16 problems. Only the top 1200 pupils from across the UK are invited to take part.

Both performed well in this. Dan was awarded a Merit and Pranav scored so highly that he was awarded a Distinction.

Ethan T, Elizabeth S, Charlotte A, Anna W, Emelia S and Samantha C all qualified for the Kangaroo round which is a very good achievement. The Junior Kangaroo is a follow-on round to the Junior Mathematical Challenge. It is a 60-minute, multiple-choice Challenge consisting of 25 problems.

Samantha scored very highly in this and was awarded a Merit. Ethan did well to qualify as he was in the L4 at the time!

Well done to all who took part! Their certificates were presented on College Green by Mr Doodes.
