King’s Athletes Shine at Hereford & Worcestershire Track and Field Championships

On Saturday, June 8th, nearly 50 athletes from the Upper Fourth to the Lower Sixth showcased their exceptional talents as they competed for Worcester City in the Hereford & Worcestershire Track and Field Championships. Notably, King’s athletes made up over a third of the Worcester City team, a remarkable feat given the presence of seven other schools in the team.

This prestigious competition brought together the finest athletes from across the county, with the top two performers in each event in the Junior and Inter categories earning the right to represent Hereford and Worcestershire in the Mason Trophy, a highly esteemed Inter-County competition.

King’s athletes delivered outstanding performances, securing a total of 20 medals, 9 Gold, 8 Silver, and 3 Bronze, alongside 22 top-eight finishes. The following athletes qualified for the Mason Trophy, set to compete on Saturday: Ben A (JB Triple Jump and 200m), Perry A (JB Discus), Sophie E (JG Discus), Sophie P (JG 800m), Florence V (JG 300m), Jack F (IB Shot), Barnaby R (IB Triple Jump), Ethan W (IB Hurdles), Lauren H (IG Discus), and Ella P (IG 3000m).

The athletic prowess of King’s pupils continued to shine on Monday during the ESAA Track and Field Cup Midlands B Final, where both the Year Nine and Year Ten Boys’ and Girls’ teams qualified to compete. This unique competition requires each team member to participate in both a Track and a Field event, accumulating points based on their performance.

Despite challenging wet and windy conditions, both teams amassed impressive points. The girls’ team in particular excelled, clinching victory with a total of 381 points. Individual accolades were earned by several athletes who scored over 30 points: Ben A, Anna C, Daisy F, Jack F, Lauren H, Peter J, Sazan M, Chloe N, Ella P, Sophie P, Lucy T, Flo V, Roman W, and Ethan W.

Special congratulations go to those who qualified for the Mason Trophy and to all the athletes for their dedication and exceptional performances, bringing pride to the School and setting a high bar for future competitions.
