King’s Crowned Overall Champions at Annual Aquathlon

Eight enthusiastic pupils from Year 7 represented King’s Worcester in the annual Aquathlon at Malvern College on Saturday – and what a performance they gave!

The Aquathlon, a highlight in the Year 7 and 8 sporting calendar, consisted of a 100m pool swim followed by an 800m run. It attracted schools from across Worcestershire and beyond, and was very much a King’s Foundation affair, with strong teams also representing King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford in the Under 11 category. Our Year 7 pupils competed in the Under 13 category, where they faced tough competition against some older and more experienced Year 8 athletes.

Despite the pressure of defending last year’s win and going up against older pupils, the King’s team rose to the occasion with determination, teamwork, and superb athleticism.

The girls’ team — Evie E-R, Felicity T, Helena C and Shreya V — and the boys’ team — Harry C, Jonas H, Sam M and Teddy C — all gave 100% effort throughout both the Aquathlon swim and the run. Their commitment to regular training through the King’s Worcester Swimming Academy was evident, with every pupil finishing their swim strongly and exiting the pool in first place in their respective heats.

Their high levels of fitness and competitive spirit continued to shine through in the run, with all eight pupils completing the  course in impressive times. A special mention must go to Helena C, who set a new course record – an outstanding achievement!

As the Aquathlon results were announced, excitement grew, and the team’s hard work was rewarded in spectacular fashion:

Helena C was crowned Girls’ Individual Winner
Harry C claimed Boys’ Individual Winner
King’s was named Overall Team Champion

The celebrations didn’t stop there, as it was also announced that King’s Hawford had won the Under 11 team event – a brilliant achievement across the whole Foundation and a testament to the effectiveness of the Swimming Academy programme and the teamwork and resilience nurtured through P.E. and Games.

A huge congratulations to Evie, Felicity, Helena, Shreya, Harry, Jonas, Sam, and Teddy – you did yourselves and the school proud with your effort, sportsmanship and spirit.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and relatives who came to cheer the team on. Your support means a great deal and contributes to the fantastic atmosphere at these events.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s competition!
