King’s Rowers Excel in Worcester Head of the River

On 8^th February, crews from King’s Boat Club braced themselves against the wintry conditions and raced at the annual Worcester Head of the River. King’s rowers enjoyed racing on their home venue and excelled in the overall results.

The course was slightly shortened due to debris on the road bridge, but enabled the rowers to stretch their legs from The Camp Inn at Grimley to Sabrina Bridge. The event attracted one of the largest fields for many years and racing was fierce, with the new Kepax Walking and Cycling Bridge offering great views of the action.

King’s Upper Six boys quad scull of Elliott B, Jack, D, Harry W & Josh L won the J18 event in style during the morning and went on to win the Open Men’s Quad Scull event in the afternoon with the fastest time for the division.

Not to be outdone, the Lower Six boys quad scull of Tom P, Felix T, Seb M & Rowan C won their J17 event in the morning and took another win in the afternoon in Band 2 of the Open Men’s Quad Scull.

Our Fifth Form Boys Eight of Oliver Y, Frederick E, Lucas, C, Will M, Lucas C, Joe S, Alex M, Freddie G & Oliver C won their race in the afternoon after many of the boys had also raced in the morning in quads.

Kings’ sixth victory of the day came from the Upper Remove boys coxed quad scull in the J15 Coxed event, with Ed C, Hugo M, Nathan S, Oscar S & Jinc L taking the honours.

King’s rowers also enjoyed many other placings among the 150 boats racing on the day; congratulations to everyone who took part for your exceptional performances.
