King’s Students Spend a Week Immersed in French Culture

During the first week of the Easter holidays, a group of Lower Sixth and Upper Remove students spent a week in Lille in Northern France. As always, we enjoyed a warm welcome from our host families, and many of our students spent time over Easter weekend in their host family’s holiday home, on the beaches of the northern coast, or down one of the region’s mines. As a group the Upper Remove students and their exchange partners from Collège Notre Dame travelled to Belgium, to the beautiful city of Ghent.

The members of the Lower Sixth, who were hosted by Sixth Form students at the Institut de Genech, spent two days on work experience, in a variety of French businesses and primary schools, using their French in a more professional environment. We also explored Lille and visited some of the region’s tunnels and war memorials, learning about the English and other Commonwealth soldiers’ role in the battle of Arras. Many of our host families in France commented on how much they had enjoyed the week with the King’s School’s students, complimenting us on their French as well as their behaviour and their positive attitude. We are now looking forward to hosting our friends from these two schools when they return to Worcester on 12th May. Many thanks to staff and students at both Cysoing and Genech. Merci à tous!
