Outstanding Achievements in Recent Athletics Competitions

This week has been remarkable for our Lower Years pupils, as they showcased their talents in the Worcester City Championships. With nearly 30 athletes participating, many competing in two events, the team delivered exceptional performances. A standout moment was Freddie P (L4) winning the 1500m and setting a new school record of 4:54, breaking the old record by an impressive 12 seconds!

Athletes who finished in the top two of their events have qualified for the Minor County Championships on Wednesday 26th June; King’s had the highest number of qualifiers from any school in the District, with pupils qualifying for 17 events. We are looking forward to seeing their performances next week and wish them the very best of luck!

The Year Seven pupils also had a chance to compete at the University of Birmingham track on Saturday, in a fixture hosted by King Edward’s, Birmingham. Despite challenging weather conditions, our pupils excelled in both track and field events. Many achieved personal bests and showed great spirit against the other competitors, who were mainly from Year Eight. The girls’ team emerged as comfortable winners, and a small boys’ team finished in an impressive third place.

Furthermore, seven King’s athletes competed in the prestigious Inter-County Mason Trophy in Stoke after qualifying from the County Championships the previous week. Ben A shone brightly, securing two gold medals in the JB Triple Jump and the Junior Mixed Relay, and finishing sixth in the 200m. Sophie P also earned a silver medal in the JG 800m, despite the tough windy and wet conditions. Perry A won the B string of the JB Discus, finishing seventh overall, narrowly missing a medal by just 1.5 metres. Jack F just missed a medal in the IB Shot by 14cm, while Ethan W set a new school record, finishing fifth in the IB Hurdles. Ella P faced challenging conditions in the IG 3000m but secured a commendable sixth place. Lauren H finished second in the B string of IG Discus and seventh overall. Notably, all three athletes who competed in the Inter age category can compete in the same age group next season.

Congratulations to all our athletes for their outstanding achievements and dedication. We look forward to more success in the upcoming competitions and wish all our athletes the best of luck!
