Netball and Football Progress through Regional Competitions

On Wednesday 9th November, the U14 Netball squad and the 1st Football XI saw success in their respective regional competitions.

Nine Lower remove girls attended the Worcestershire County U14 Netball tournament, hosted by Bromsgrove School. They showed depth and versatility as a squad, working in numerous combinations across the court. Dodder Hill, Malvern College and Bewdley were drawn alongside King’s to compete in a round-robin tournament to determine the winner and runner-up of Pool A. After a slow start adjusting to the courts and floodlights, the girls soon found their rhythm and won all three matches.

Meeting RGS Worcester in the semi-final the girls demonstrated some quality passages of play. They worked hard to maintain their lead throughout the match, meaning they progressed through to the final against a polished Bromsgrove side. Determination and steely confidence saw the girls put up a great fight, narrowly losing 5-7.

Miss Ormandy is excited to see consistently high numbers of girls attending the U14 netball club on a Monday after school, helping each other improve and build towards the season ahead.

On the same day, the 1st Football XI beat Wolverhampton Grammar School 1-0 in the 1st round of the ISFA Shield to continue a great start to their season. Our 1st XI footballers had previously beaten Truro School in the competition, a thrilling match settled in the end by penalties. The team also won a hard-fought first-round tie in the ISFA cup against Marlborough College.

On Wednesday 16th the team travelled to London for round three of the competition against Harrodian, where they, unfortunately, lost to strong opposition and were knocked out of the Shield. The boys played some fantastic football in the competition, showing great determination and skill.
