Return of Superball 2022

King’s Worcester are delighted to announce the return to the wonderful setting of The University of Worcester Arena on the 19th March for what promises to be a most enjoyable and exciting fixture as Superball returns.

Once again this will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase the remarkable level of girls’ sport between both of our schools, King’s Worcester and RGS Worcester. We are also very lucky to have NextGen live stream the contest, so that it can be enjoyed online by those unable to join us.

In 2020, Superball could not go ahead because of the recently imposed lockdown; neither could it take place last year because of COVID restrictions, so it is even more of a delight to be back and able to play this highlight of our fixture list. We continue to be most grateful to Professor David Green, Vice Chancellor of the University, for his support of the Superball, a fantastic event which started eight years ago.

Superball 1

The King’s 1st team squad has already met with great success this year and has been most ably led throughout the season by team captain Emily D. As ever, the whole squad is looking forward to the match against what is always a strong opposition. Preparations have begun, with the team playing against Monmouth Comprehensive School and Malvern College in the coming weeks.

The King’s community hopes that all the players will have a great game, playing with enthusiasm, skill, and drive but also with the highest standards of fair play and mutual respect. We wish both teams the very best of luck and would also like to express our gratitude to the netball staff from schools, who deserve great credit for all their hard work over so many years, and to all the supporters, here in the Arena or watching online, who help to make it such a memorable occasion.

Competing here in front of so many spectators is a wonderful opportunity and something which will stay with the girls for the rest of their lives. We hope you can come and support them and enjoy what promises to be a thrilling event.

Tickets for the match, at cost of £5 per person, will be on sale from Monday 7 March and may be purchased during morning break only from Mrs Quigley. We ask that the requisite sum in cash be brought in, with any cheques made payable to King’s School Worcester. We strongly advise you to purchase tickets in advance as tickets purchased on the night at the Arena will cost £7.

The 1st VII game will start at 18.00, and the doors will officially open at 16.30. The 2nd VII game will start at 16.00, but there will be limited spectators allowed in for this game.

Director of Netball, Mrs McGinley adds ‘It’s great to finally have Superball back in the school calendar having had several years where we have been unable to play. Having a full capacity crowd at this event will be a definite step in the right direction for indoor events in the future. The intention of this event is to celebrate girls sport on the big stage and to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Support UK.’

We are delighted to have had the encouragement and organisational support from the University of Worcester to enable this event to happen and we hope that you and your family will want to support this exciting event. We look forward to a thoroughly enjoyable evening of Netball.

Best of luck to all of the girls involved on what promises to be an exciting occasion!
