King’s Rowers Raise Thousands for Charity in Annual Challenge

The King’s School Worcester Boat Club rowers have completed their annual charity challenge to row one million metres, raising over £6000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The challenge, now in its seventh year, involved staff, students and former students powering the indoor rowing machines row one million meters, the equivalent of six hundred and twenty miles, without stopping, over 17 hours throughout the night from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning.

The students worked in teams to row for five-minute intervals for an hour at a time. Members of the Old Vigornian community supported the team and took their turn to row.

Head of Rowing, Jim Chalmers, said: “It was an incredible effort from this year’s team, in an exhausting event at the end of a busy term.”

“Thank you to everyone who supported the challenge, including parents and family members who provided food and refreshments, members of staff who gave up their time to supervise, our dedicated team of rowers and of course everyone who made a donation.”

Donations can still be made here.
