Sebastian Achieves Silver in Taekwondo Holland Cup
Lower Remove Pupil Sebastian, a talented Taekwondo athlete, has had a remarkable year of training and competition, culminating in his outstanding performance at the Holland Cup in Greater The Hague. Competing at an international level, Seb showcased his exceptional skills and determination, earning a Silver Medal in Sparring. This accomplishment highlights not only his talent but also his commitment to martial arts.
Seb’s success is testament to the excellent tuition he receives from Worcestershire Martial Arts. However, he gave a special acknowledgement to Harry Cronin, King’s Strength and Conditioning Coach. Harry’s tailored training regime, focusing on strength and conditioning specific to Seb’s sport and physique, has been instrumental in Seb’s development. The unique support and coaching he has received significantly enhanced his competitive ability and mentality, a benefit that is notable in a 14-year-old athlete.
As Seb prepares for the ITF Welsh Open on 22nd June 2024 in Cardiff, he continues to maintain a rigorous training schedule. Despite the demanding Taekwondo sessions twice a week, he finds time to enjoy other sports such as Cricket and Rowing at King’s Worcester, showcasing his versatility and passion for athletics.
Our Strength and Conditioning Coach, Harry Cronin reflects on Seb’s journey, noting, “Sebastian was able to start using the gym at King’s during the Easter holidays, just before he began his academic journey in the Summer Term. He had not previously incorporated significant strength and conditioning into his Taekwondo training, but he embraced the programme with enthusiasm. The holiday sessions allowed him to explore new ideas and understand his strengths and weaknesses in the gym environment.
“Since joining King’s, Seb has followed a bespoke programme focused on balance, mobility, proprioception, and dynamic strength. This comprehensive approach has not only enhanced his performance in Taekwondo but also allowed him to engage with other pupils and explore new sports like Rowing and Cricket. Seb’s integration into life at King’s has been seamless, and his ability to perform at a high level both inside and outside school is commendable.”
Congratulations, Seb, on your Silver Medal, and the very best of luck in the upcoming ITF Welsh Open! We look forward to supporting you in your future endeavours and celebrating many more of your successes.
