King’s Swimming Camp Inspires Worcestershire’s Young Swimmers
Thirty pupils from swimming clubs across Worcestershire enjoyed expert coaching at King’s Worcester’s three-day Senior Swimming Camp during the October half term holiday.
The camp was organised by the King’s Worcester Swimming Academy team and provided an opportunity for Swim England registered club swimmers to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of swimming, alongside their friends from local schools and swimming clubs.
Daily sessions included dry-land warm up and stretching sessions in the King’s Worcester gym with the school’s specialist Strength & Conditioning Coach, Harry Cronin, as well as two pool-based practical sessions. A specially prepared nutritional recovery lunch each day helped the swimmers re-fuel after their busy training sessions.
This is the third Swimming Camp that King’s has run since Chris Jenkinson became the Head of Swimming in September 2024, with each of them being fully booked. The camps build on an already successful partnership with Worcester Swimming Club, with their Head Coach, Mark Stowe, and Junior Head Coach, Kate Lloyd, delivering expert coaching over the three days.
Chris Jenkinson said: “The King’s School Worcester is delighted to be able to offer these Swimming Camps during the school holidays. Swimming is an extremely popular sport across Worcestershire and we are really pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for children from any school who have an interest and passion for swimming to be able to attend our half term Swimming Camps.”
“As well as improving their swimming technique across the different strokes, swimmers who also get chance to develop dives, underwater phases, breakouts, turns and relay changeovers – all extremely important skills as they continue on their competitive swimming journey.”
“We also help pupils gain a better understanding of the importance of diet, hydration and stretching and the importance of knowing how to look after their body effectively. Whilst our Swimming Camps are educational and are designed with providing the opportunity for all participants to improve in mind, the swimmers also enjoyed the social element of the camps, which is obviously great for the swimmers’ mental health and well-being, as well as their physical health too!”
Since the King’s Worcester Swimming Academy was formed 18 months ago, the Academy has gone from strength to strength. The school has recently seen its best-ever swimming, with four teams (Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Inter Mixed and Senior Boys) qualifying for this year’s English Schools’ National Team Championships in November.
The school will soon compete in the ESSA National Water Polo Championships, as well as the newly formed ‘Schools’ Swimming Super League’, as it looks to offer even more aquatic opportunities for its pupils.
