Super Seven Scored by Jess in European Water polo Competition

Fifth Form (Y11) pupil Jess D played a key role for the Great British Hawks team in the Junior Women EU Nations water polo tournament in the Czech Republic recently, as her team claimed the bronze medal and she scored a spectacular seven goals.

The tournament was held in the town of Brno and Jess was selected to play in the Great Britain Hawks team for U18 girls. They competed against Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Scotland, beating Scotland in the playoffs to win the bronze medal.

Jess comments, “I was delighted to have been selected to play for the Great British Hawks Team in the tournament. It was the first time that I had played in a tournament abroad and we started on Friday morning, suffering a narrow loss to Slovakia but beating the hosts in the afternoon convincingly.  On Saturday morning we had a very tough game against a very well-organised German side, but in the afternoon, we were pleased to beat Scotland, meaning that we had played four, won two and lost two. This meant that we had finished third in the group stages and qualified for the bronze medal match on Sunday morning, once again against Scotland.

“In a nail-biting match, where the lead changed multiple times, we eventually ran out winners by 14-9 to claim the bronze medal. I scored seven goals in the tournament and two in the last game.  Overall, it was great fun and a fantastic experience, which I hope to repeat shortly”.

Jess has also been selected for the GB U18 squad and will be training with them going forward; we wish her every success in her international career.
