Talented King’s Swimmers Excel at Bath and Otter Cup Relays Invitational
Eight talented swimmers from King’s Worcester recently embarked on an exciting trip to London, where they had the privilege of competing in the prestigious Bath and Otter Cup Relays invitational swimming competition. The event took place on Friday 7th March, at the renowned Olympic swimming pool at the London Aquatics Centre.
This competition is one of the highlights of the school swimming calendar, drawing schools from across Great Britain to compete in high-standard, team relay events. With its exceptional reputation and the level of competition it attracts, the event offered a thrilling experience for the KSW swimmers, who represented the school with great determination and skill.
The girls’ team performed admirably in two highly competitive relays. In the 4 x 50m Medley Relay, they finished in 17th place out of 73 schools, showcasing their teamwork and resilience. Their effort in the 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay was equally impressive, as they secured 18th place, once again out of a tough field of 73 schools.
The boys’ team delivered some remarkable results, narrowly missing out on podium positions in their respective events. In the 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay, they finished in 5th place out of 78 schools; a fantastic achievement that left them just a fraction away from a medal. They also performed well in the 4 x 50m Medley Relay, securing 8th place, again out of 78 schools, showing their competitive spirit and strength.
As if competing in the Bath and Otter Cup Relays wasn’t enough, four of the KSW swimmers – Grace E, Ben G, Grace R, and Harry C travelled from London to Sheffield, immediately after the competition to compete in another swimming meet over the weekend. Their goal being to achieve more qualifying times for the prestigious Aquatics GB British Championships and Swim England National Championships, as well as further improving their times in the events that they have already qualified for.
The Bath and Otter Cup Relays event in London was a fantastic experience for the KSW swimmers, who gave their best performances and demonstrated exceptional teamwork. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams showed great sportsmanship and skill in a highly competitive environment, and the journey to Sheffield for some of the swimmers further highlights their dedication to their sport. This event proved to be a valuable opportunity for some important team bonding and further experience at independent residential race preparation, and will no doubt continue to be a highlight in the school’s swimming calendar for years to come, after these performances.
Well done to Aled L, Ben G, Catherine H, Dylan L, Grace E, Grace, R, Harry C and Lucie E, who all represented King’s Worcester extremely well. A special mention must also go to Lucie E though, who swam a massive, long course relay personal best time in the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay, in her first time swimming in the Olympic pool and representing the senior swimming team!
