Upper Remove Pupils Inspired on PSHE Day
As part of the school’s PSHE provision, Upper Remove took part in a PSHE day on Wednesday, where they listened to a carousal of guest speakers, chosen to educate, inspire and support them on their journey into adulthood.
Dave Parvin, a former Drug Squad Officer, and current representative from Drug Sense UK, delivered a passionate talk on the dangers associated with drugs, vaping and the current laws surrounding knife crime. Dave’s own case studies and examples, gained from his many years working as a Drug Squad Officer made his delivery of information particularly engaging and enlightening.
Andrew Wright spoke about Personal Communication, and how to make a good first impression. Andrew spent 10 years as a broadcaster, journalist and radio and television producer. Since then, he has developed and delivered practical coaching and development programmes for people of all ages, backgrounds and needs.
In his session, Andrew helped students to build strong first impressions with others, to understand the power and important of speculatively networking, and how to build their understanding of other people through paralanguage, active listening, and the art of narrative based conversations. Students were particularly amazed by how much he could decipher about them just by studying their body language!
Karl Hopwood delivered a very informative talk on E-safety. He is an online safety expert with over 15 years’ experience working with schools, teachers, students, parents and other professional to address the challenges posed by modern technology. He sits on the Roblox trust and safety board where he represents the Insafe network and was recently part of an expert steering group with TikTok looking at harmful and dangerous online challenges.
He spoke about advertising, apps, scams, videos, influencers, AI and ways in which we can remain vigilant when we go online.
It was certainly a thoroughly informative and enlightening day!
