King’s Rowers enjoy Bank Holiday Success
Over the recent May Day Bank Holiday Weekend, members of the King’s Boat Club attended the Wallingford Regatta on Sunday and the Junior Sculling Regatta on Monday. Both events attracted the finest young rowers in the country as they prepared for the major events to come this summer, so the competition was fierce.
At Wallingford Regatta on Sunday, we boated two Sixth Form Girls’ Fours, a Boys’ Quad Scull and a Fifth Form Girls’ Four. All crews raced well in their heats, with the standout performers being the Girls’ Coxless Four of Millie D, Freya D, Rebecca N and Amelia V, who qualified for the final by taking third place in the heat. They had a ferocious battle with St Edward’s School in the heat, losing by a fraction of a second, but certainly put the record straight in the final with a large margin over St Edward’s and an excellent fifth place. It was also great to see several OVs racing at the senior levels of the regatta.
Monday saw us racing in a different format, as the day started with a time trial processional race to qualify for the finals. We had Quad Sculls from Upper Remove, Fifth and Sixth Forms, along with a single Sculler. Again, our rowers excelled in their efforts and enjoyed some great racing experience. The Upper Remove Boys’ crew of Freddie G, Freddie B, Alex McV, Lucas C and Oliver C, along with the Senior Boys’ Quad Scull of Josh L, Jack D, Harry W and Elliott B made it into the limited number of finals. The racing was tight, and all the boys raced magnificently, placing sixth and fourth respectively.
