Sixth Formers Immerse Themselves in Spanish Culture on Salamanca Trip

Twelve Sixth Form students from King’s Worcester recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to Salamanca, Spain, for an immersive language and cultural experience. Accompanied by two staff members, the group travelled via Madrid, settling into a warm and welcoming stay with host families who lovingly cared for them throughout their visit.

Mornings were dedicated to intensive Spanish lessons at Colegio Delibes, a renowned language school in the heart of Salamanca. Each day, the pupils participated in four-hour classes designed to boost their Spanish speaking and comprehension skills, equipping them with practical language tools for everyday use.

Afternoons were packed with engaging cultural activities. The students explored the impressive architecture and history of Salamanca on a guided tour, gaining insights into the city’s heritage. They also visited the western side of the city, marvelling at the vibrant graffiti art and even took the opportunity to interview locals, practising their conversational Spanish.

One highlight was a challenge involving local news, where pupils had to watch and read Spanish media to complete various tasks, adding an authentic learning dimension. A lively salsa dancing lesson, taught by a Cuban dance instructor, had both students and teachers enthusiastically joining in and enjoying the rhythm. The experience was rounded off with a traditional tapas evening, sampling Spain’s rich culinary delights.

The group also tried their hand at padel, a sport uniquely popular in Spain that combines elements of tennis and squash. The pupils embraced the challenge, finding it both exciting and thoroughly enjoyable.

The trip proved to be an incredible opportunity for the five Lower Sixth and seven Upper Sixth students, blending language learning with cultural immersion, and left lasting memories for everyone involved.
